FOR UPDATE waits; NOWAIT fails fast with 55P03; SKIP LOCKED silently skips. Use SKIP LOCKED for queues/pools, NOWAIT for “resource busy, try later” UX, and plain FOR UPDATE when you need strict ordering and can wait.
